When do I need a visa for New Zealand?
Swedish passport holders do not need to apply for a traditional visa for tourist trips, business visits or short visits to New Zealand of up to 3 months. However, Swedish citizens must apply for an NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) before departure.
The NZeTA is not a visa but an electronic travel authorization required for visa-free travelers. For work, study, long stays or other special purposes, a visa is required and must be approved before travel.
Visa-free entry is valid for tourism, family visits, transit and certain business trips. The final decision on entry is always taken by the border authorities upon arrival.
Note: The above information applies to Swedish passport holders as well as citizens from many other visa-free countries. Other nationalities may have different requirements. Some travelers may need to apply for a visa in advance or provide additional documents when applying.
