When do I need a visa to Sweden?
Sweden is part of the Schengen area. Travellers from many countries outside the EU and Schengen need to apply for a Schengen visa before entering Sweden for tourist trips, business trips, family visits or other short stays.
Of course, Swedish citizens do not need a visa to enter Sweden. Citizens of other EU and EEA countries as well as Switzerland can enter and stay in Sweden without a visa. For citizens of visa-required countries, a Schengen visa is usually required, which can grant the right to stay for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The final decision on entry is always taken by the border control authorities upon arrival.
Note: The above information applies primarily to people travelling to Sweden from countries outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland. Other nationalities may have different requirements. Some travelers may need to apply for a visa in advance or provide additional documents when applying.
