When do I need a visa for Sri Lanka?
UK citizens need a valid visa or Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) to travel to Sri Lanka for tourism, business, or transit. Most short-haul trips are made with an electronic ETA that is applied for prior to departure via Sri Lanka's official system.
Swedish passport holders cannot travel visa-free to Sri Lanka. How long you are allowed to stay depends on the type of ETA or visa granted. For tourist trips, the most common length of stay is up to 30 days with the possibility of extension after approval from local authorities. The entry permit is valid for tourism, certain business visits and transit depending on the visa category. The final decision on entry is always made by the immigration authorities at the border.
Note: The above information applies to Swedish passport holders as well as many other European nationalities. Other nationalities may have different requirements. Some travelers may need to apply for a visa in advance or provide additional documents when applying.
