When do I need a visa for Somalia?
Swedish citizens need a visa to travel to Somalia, regardless of whether the trip is for tourism, business or family visits. Somalia has introduced a mandatory electronic visa system (eTAS/e-Visa), which means that all new visa applications must be made online. The Embassy of Somalia in Stockholm no longer issues new visas over the counter but refers applicants to the official eTAS portal.
The visa must be approved before departure. The final decision on entry is always made by the Somali immigration authorities at the border checkpoint, even if an e-visa has been granted. The passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
Note: The above information applies to Swedish passport holders. Other nationalities may have different requirements. Some travelers may need to apply for a visa in advance or provide additional documents when applying.
