Thailand Changes Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days from 15 September 2026
Thailand has announced an important change to its visa exemption rules. From 15 September 2026, Swedish passport holders travelling to Thailand for tourism can stay visa-free for up to 30 days, instead of the previous 60-day visa-free period.
This means that Swedish travellers who are planning to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days should apply for an appropriate visa before travelling rather than relying on the previous 60-day exemption. Sweden is included among the countries eligible for the new 30-day tourist visa exemption.
What happens if you travel before 15 September?
Travellers who enter Thailand before 15 September 2026 under the existing visa-exemption rules can remain until the end of the period already granted by Thai immigration. The new rules apply from 15 September onwards.
Visa applications are becoming more document-focused
At Alla Visum, we have also seen that Thai visa applications require careful document preparation. Applicants should make sure that supporting documents are complete, consistent and meet the requirements for the particular visa category.
Requirements can differ depending on the purpose and length of the stay, so travellers should avoid assuming that documents accepted for a previous application will automatically be sufficient for a new one.
